- About Kansei: Kansei Matsuno, the Japanese knife maker, is a true master of his craft, with a distinctive style that sets his designs apart. Since 1992, Kansei has been crafting knives, showcasing his work for the first time at the Seki Outdoor Knife Show just a year later. His skillful blend of traditional Japanese elements with modern pocketknife features immediately impressed us. His knives, characterized by their slim, lightweight construction, straightforward designs, and classic Japanese blades, are both elegant and practical for everyday use.
Born in 1951 in Japan, Kansei Matsuno struggled to find knives that met his exacting standards. This led him to start making knives himself, initially shaping steel billets by hand with a file. After two years, he invested in a simple belt sander, which significantly improved his productivity and the quality of his work. As his reputation grew, friends began requesting custom designs, prompting Kansei to start manufacturing knives professionally in 1998.
In 2001, Kansei attended his first American knife show, and by 2002, his improved craftsmanship earned him a probationary membership in the American Knifemakers Guild. Today, Kansei specializes in creating framelock folding knives using premium materials such as titanium for the frames and VG-10, OU-31, and CV-134 stainless steel for the blades. He often lines the handles with G-10, deer antler, pearl, and coral, tailoring his designs to meet customer preferences.
Kansei Matsuno continues to produce first-class folding knives, renowned for their original designs and exceptional quality.
